While opinions about Final Fantasy 16 may be mixed, it’s undeniably a strong, story-focused action RPG at its core. Mods can address certain criticisms, and if you’re interested in using custom content, here’s a simple guide on how to install mods for the Steam version of the game.
How to Mod FF16 on PC
Installing mods typically depends on the type of mod you’re adding. For most mods available for Final Fantasy 16, the process is straightforward: simply extract the mod files into the game’s main directory. Currently, most mods are performance improvements, reshaders, or minor gameplay adjustments. However, as time goes on, we can expect more mods that change textures, models, or even introduce brand new content.

To locate your game’s installation folder, open your Steam Library, right-click on Final Fantasy 16, and choose “Browse Local Files” from the “Manage” menu. Requirements
– Reloaded-II Mod Manager
– ff16.utility.modloader (Mod Loader) – Github Mirror
– 7-Zip to extract Reloaded-II (if not using the setup)
Setting up Reloaded-II
– Download Reloaded-II’s Release.zip, or Setup.exe.
– Extract Release.zip to its own folder or run the Setup.exe and install it.
– Open Reloaded-II.exe.
– Press the + Icon to add a game and select ffxvi.exe.
– Drag & Drop ff16.utility.modloader.7z to Reloaded-II. You may need to restart Reloaded-II to be able to drag-drop.
– In Reloaded-II make sure to tick on the checkbox next to FINAL FANTASY XVI / 16 Mod Loader to enable it.
Installing Mods
– Download a mod. You can find mods on sites like Nexus Mods and GameBanana. Make sure that they are compatible with Reloaded-II.
– Same process, drag & drop.
– Press Launch Application to launch the game and install the mods.
