How to Get and Ride a Chocobo in Final Fantasy 16
Although it’s been established that Final Fantasy 16 won’t feature a sprawling open world, the regions of Valisthea are still vast. In the early part of the game, Clive Rosfield will primarily travel on foot, but this changes after completing a particular side quest.
This quest reintroduces a familiar companion, allowing Clive to traverse long distances more quickly. Yes, the Chocobo mount makes a return in Final Fantasy 16, a welcome addition for those who want to explore every corner of the game’s expansive world.
How to Unlock a Mount in Final Fantasy 16
The side quest that unlocks the Chocobo mount is called “The White-Winged Wonder.” In the town of Martha’s Rest, located in Rosaria, a resident speaks of a feathered hero rescuing people from bandits. Clive is tasked with tracking down this legendary Chocobo.
To begin, head southeast from the town’s entrance to the marked area, where you’ll find a white feather on the ground. Follow the Chocobo tracks to a spot where a group of bandits has trapped a majestic white Chocobo and its companions.
Dispatch the bandits using Clive’s sword skills, a relatively easy task for players familiar with the combat system. After the fight, Clive will approach the Chocobos and realize that the white Chocobo is Ambrosia, his loyal steed from his childhood. After this heartwarming reunion, players will gain the ability to summon Ambrosia for faster travel.
How to Ride a Chocobo in Final Fantasy 16
After 18 years, Clive is reunited with Ambrosia, and players can enjoy the speed boost that comes with riding a Chocobo. To summon Ambrosia, press and hold R3 while in the field, and she will appear on-screen.
Approach Ambrosia and press X to mount her. While riding, you can gallop by pressing R2 to increase speed and use L2 to slow down.
A useful skill is the Chocobo Drift, which can be performed by holding L2 while galloping and moving the left stick left or right, allowing for sharp turns. When Ambrosia flaps her wings and plants her feet, releasing L2 will trigger a Drift Dash, giving a burst of speed.
Riding Ambrosia is both fun and practical. Although enemies may still pursue, players can easily outrun them, making travel across Valisthea smoother and faster.
