Final Fantasy enthusiasts may be witnessing the most impressive version of Ifrit to date, following the recent reveal of the Summon in Final Fantasy 16.
Earlier this week, the English-language Twitter account for Final Fantasy 16 showcased Ifrit’s artwork in all its splendor. This revamped Ifrit boasts a darker appearance than ever before, with striking cold blue eyes contrasting against the fiery scars adorning its form.
The updated artwork has sparked discussions among Final Fantasy fans regarding whether this is Ifrit’s finest design. The subreddit post found below has garnered over a thousand upvotes at the time of writing, indicating that many people agree this could be the most thrilling redesign of Ifrit in its extensive history.

One user, expressing agreement, writes, “8 and 10 have always had my favorite summon designs, but I’m really enjoying the designs of 16 from the recent art release.” Another user adds, “16’s summons are looking really cool. I love their designs from what I’ve seen so far.”
Some users also believe this is the “scariest” version of Ifrit in the Final Fantasy series. Given that the towering Eikon represents fire in Final Fantasy 16, a frightening appearance seems fitting. Comparisons have also been drawn to the iconic Balrog from The Lord of the Rings, which Ifrit would likely appreciate.
For now, this rendition of Ifrit appears to be challenging the iterations from Final Fantasy 8 and 10, at least among this segment of the fanbase. It’s possible that Final Fantasy 16 will be remembered for its remarkable Eikons upon release, but we’ll have to wait until June 22 to find out for certain.
